Church Architectural Building
Explore a Roman Catholic basilica dedicated to the mother of Jesus at Mount Mary Church. Built over a century ago, the current edifice represents the semi-gothic style of architecture; its twin towers reach a height of 30 m (98 ft). See how the holy site attracts thousands of devotees each year during the feast, followed by a week-long celebration called Bandra Fair. The 16th-century statue of the Virgin Mary outside the church represents a place which both Hindus and Christians find a kind of syncretic peace. • The Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount is also known as Mount Mary Church is a Roman Catholic Basilica. The feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary is commended here on the 8th September on the birthday of the Virgin Mary. This holy place draws in people from all beliefs who appeal to the Virgin Mary for offering their gratitude.   The church is on a hillock that stands 262 feet above ocean level. The street that closures outside the church is seen with small shops offering candles, blossoms and different offerings for love. There are additional shops loaded with wax puppets of human body parts and even houses or dolls. People of different religions purchase these to make an offering and pray to Mother to end their miseries.  This Mother Mary is a minor basilica that is about 100 years of age.
  • The Mount Mary Fair in Bandra is an eight day festive occasion and is celebrated to honour the birth of Virgin Mary. The belief is that Mother Mary was born on September 8 and so every year the Mount Mary Basilica celebrates by giving a feast to Our Lady of the Mount. This is a true carnival and has lovely shopping stalls, street events, food stalls, and amusement rides. It also has concerts and wonderful memories to take back. The venue usually is the Mount Mary Church complex and in all the lanes surrounding the church. This year the Bandra Fair as it is also called begins on September 14, and ends on September 21, 2014. Mount Mary Basilica performs the prayers or Novena for the Blessed Virgin Mary nine days before the fair begins. The Story It is said that the Blessed Virgin Mary was the mother of Jesus Christ. Her birthday is celebrated as the Nativity or the Birth Day. People come from far and wide to express their gratitude to Virgin Mary and also to pray for the well being of their family and close ones. It is said that all wishes are granted when we visit the Mount Mary Fair. People of all castes, faith come to the Mount Mary Fair and pray. In fact, the ratio of non Christians is more than Christians in the fair. Mount Mary resides in everyone’s hearts and is regarded as a symbol of faith and trust. • Peaceful environment. According to Myth it fullfill your wish. You can worship with different shapes candle as you dream.
  • One of the most pious and soothing place. You can actually feel the positivity of the place as soon as you enter the basilica. I make sure to visit it as frequently as possible. It has played a huge role in my life!
  • Very peaceful church. Parking lot allowing you to travel by car. On a mostly peaceful street.

Where to stay in Mumbai (Bombay)

In a cramped city like Mumbai, finding a budget hotel can present a serious challenge. Many business travelers and tourists choose to stay in South Mumbai, the oldest and richest neighborhood in the city. Accommodations here put you close to most top museums, restaurants, bars, art galleries, and shops. Proximity to major attractions comes at a premium price, though--not surprising for one of the most expensive cities in Asia. If you plan to visit on a tight budget, look for options near railway stations, but prepare for low-grade rooms and few or no amenities.
