Mahalakshmi Temple, Mumbai (Bombay)

(1,000+ reviews on the web)
Religious Site
At Mahalakshmi Temple, witness how devotees passionately worship the Hindu goddess Mahalaxmi, the central deity of the sacret text called the "Devi Mahatmyam." Look for the statue of the goddess (devi), which the chief engineer dreamt of and actually recovered from the sea during the temple's construction in 1831. Examine the idols adorned with nose rings, pearl necklaces, and gold bangles. If you want to make your own religious contribution, head over to the stalls to purchase flower garlands and make an offering. Even though the site is small, it can get crowded, so time your visit accordingly. Put Mahalakshmi Temple into our Mumbai (Bombay) tourist route planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • Beautiful temple. Major landmark in Mumbai. A must visit. Located right on the ocean banks.
  • Famous temple , where people are flooding. Can keep it a bit more cleaner too., but the ambiance was bliss, and we could get a nice view of Haji Ali Dargah, when you get down the steps near to the water.
  • Nice temple situated in lap of Arabian Sea. Crowd management can be handled better on holidays and festive days..
  • One of the v.old temple of Mumbai. It's on the seashore and while during the approach to the temple one can see the sea waves hitting the temple walls. Shri Mahalakshmi, is the main deity, the temple is very peaceful especially in the early morning as the crowd is limited. If you are a tourist avoid Tuesday n Friday as it really crowded. One can pick up sarees which has been put on God's idol at the temple office, princes range from Rs.200-Rs 5000
