Global Vipassana Pagoda, Mumbai (Bombay)
(4.6/5 based on 460+ reviews on the web)
Take some time out of your busy travel itinerary to slow down and reflect at Global Vipassana Pagoda, a meditation hall topped with an impressive spire covered in real gold. Even if you do not meditate, the grand architecture of this attraction alone warrants a visit. Look for a large crystal on the pinnacle, which covers the world's largest stone dome built without supporting pillars. When you go, also look for a pagoda dome containing Buddha relics, library and study rooms, and a museum dedicated to the life of the Buddha. The complex also offers meditation courses. Check the attraction's website beforehand, as visitors are only allowed to enter during strict periods. • Located between the Gorai Creek and the Arabian sea, Mumbai, this bright Golden Burmese architecture structure standing tall. One can travel by boat from Gorai Village, Borivali West which is the cheapest way to travel. Next to Essel World. Global Vipassana Pagoda is a meditation center and has been built out of gratitude to the Buddha. If you are not into meditation, you can visit the Pagoda but the entry to its main hall is restricted. One can sit outside and enjoy the panorama view. Tip: Avoid to visit during summer. Heat will exhaust you.
  • A really appreciatable and architectural monument.Feeling peacful with a lot of devotion. It was a great expierience. So you MUST visit.😇:-)
  • Area of temple open to tourists is very small. Lot of construction going on. The temple has to be accessed taking a boat ride from Borivili/Goari beach paying Rs 50.00 (around $1 round trip). The boats are sometimes over-packed with people going to Essel World since they also use the same boats. There could be a long queue to get into the boats on weekends and holidays. There is no entry fee to visit the temple. There is a small cafe where you can purchase snacks like samosas and bottled water. There is also a painting gallery. The main temple has one of the largest self supported domes in the world. I am not sure whether it is the largest. Besides the unique dome there is nothing worth seeing at the Pagoda.
  • The place is very beautiful with so much creativity, cleanliness, peace, and amazing atmosphere. One could sit their for hours and not feel that the time is moving at all! By far the best place for meditation. And the sayings of Buddhism makes it more beautiful. The architecture is also painstakingly beautiful. A wonderful visit, and a recommended visit for all! 😁🙌
  • The Global Vipassana Pagoda is a Meditation Hall near Gorai, North-west of Mumbai, India. The Pagoda was inaugurated by Pratibha Patil, then President of India on 8 February 2009.
