Flora Fountain, Mumbai (Bombay)

(160+ reviews on the web)
Admire an exquisitely carved Roman goddess atop Flora Fountain, a neo-classical and Gothic revival fountain in Hutatma Chowk Square. Inaugurated in 1869 by the Agri-Horticultural Society of Western India to honor a British colonial administrator, the fountain was sculpted in specially imported Portland stone. Surrounded by green shrubs in a circular garden, the fountain makes a popular tourist attraction and a particularly nice sight at night. Named after a daughter-in-law of a Jewish businessman in Mumbai, the fountain has long been a landmark of the city, and is now surrounded by skyscrapers. • A place of historical significance, a landmark in the heart of the city! Though it's a monument from the times that India would prefer to forget, it's a magnificent piece of work nevertheless. It's worth appreciating that the authorities are sprucing it up. I hope to see a much more awe inspiring version of it once completed.
  • Heritage site... Love the overall feel of the place... Nostalgic British era feel with modern day buzz of office-goers, traffic chaos and honking cars...
  • Was undergoing renovation when we visited.. so it was covered.. yet I believe it is worth visiting.. knowing about it's historical significance.
