Sri Krishna Janmasthan, Mathura

Feel the power of ancient mythology and powerful traditions at Sri Krishna Janmasthan, one of the most sacred Hindu temples believed to have been constructed at the birthplace of Krishna. Standing on holy grounds as a countless reincarnation of the first shrine believed to be 5,000 years old, the present-day pale red structure was completed in 1965. Impressive images of deities with vivid colors feature all over the large gardens. Lord Krishna’s chariot pulled by four white horses, and Shiva prancing atop of a seven-headed king cobra are among the highlights. See the cage-like shrine behind a mosque marking Krishna’s exact birthplace. Use our Mathura tour itinerary planner to arrange your visit to Sri Krishna Janmasthan and other attractions in Mathura.

  • The place was amazing. Very spiritual place. I recommend visiting it after 4 o'clock. The main temple is huge and has a myriad structure. Camera's are not allowed in its vicinity. It has got heavy sec...  more »

  • Traffic is high and they have limited parking. Its such a holy place, they could have developed more and then there is possibility for foreign tourists. But still the temple is accessible for everyone. Devotional vibes, dancing and singing everywhere. A must visit place, and strict security. They don’t allow bag’s or mobile phones inside the temple. Monkeys are everywhere, one should be careful while feeding them. Best time to viist is early morning.
  • This is my second visit. I last visited this temple when I was a child, probably some 20 years back. The temple is very clean and well-managed. I still have vivid memories of my last visit. The small shops right outside the temple are worth visiting. If you are tired, there are many desi and branded restaurants around.
  • The only place you should first visit among the many other temples you see every meter.  Though face some parking problems but after all this there is nothing to worry. Better keep your cell phones and remotes in the car itself. they don't even allow car lock remotes inside. So, better keep your gadgets in the car. After the security check, you are all set to experience the best of Mathura. The Temple main building it magnificent and the inside truly awesome. Don't come here in the noon, the Idols of God are not in show for some time and even the gates are closed for some time. There is also the exact said place where Lord Krishna was born, deep below the present temple.  Apart from all these, you can also visit and exhibition of Krishna's life in short in the form a cave just beside the temple in the campus only. You can buy eatables inside. The stairs are very hot during the noon, though various arrangements are made to help visitors but still the sun wins over all.
  • Ironically the janmbhoomi area belongs to a mosque. Temple is situated near the birth place. Too much police. A temple is a place of worship. There should not be boundations like this. A man should worship freely.
  • Sacrd place where Lord Krishna was born in a cellar. This is accessible with some 10 or 12 steps. Do not miss this small place. This is the Janmasthan. A big Sri Krishna temple built nearby which is tall and majestic. Old and ailing can not easily climb the huge stairs. Lift facility is available but only after 9.00 a.m. Wheel chairs are available. High security. You have to walk 100 metres from Main road.
