Sultan Battery, Mangalore

(2.7/5 based on 140+ reviews on the web)
Enjoy views of scenic backwaters from Sultan Battery, the only material reminder of Tipu Sultan’s empire dismantled by the British. Built in 1784 on the headland of the old port to control the estuary of the Gurupura River, the fort features thick black stone walls overlooking the beach and the sea. Explore mounting places for canons and an underground storage area for gunpowder. Get a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea and take a stroll along the beach with few shacks and a boating house. • Beautiful structure. Looks like a little fortress. Has a good view of the Gurupur river. Take a ferry ride to the other side of the river and enjoy the tannirubavi beach.
  • One of Mangalore's iconic place and a heritage site. Good place to spend time with family and friends in the evening by the river side. You can also take a ferry across the river to reach the new Tannirbhavi beach
