Sultan Battery, Mangalore

2.9
Enjoy views of scenic backwaters from Sultan Battery, the only material reminder of Tipu Sultan’s empire dismantled by the British. Built in 1784 on the headland of the old port to control the estuary of the Gurupura River, the fort features thick black stone walls overlooking the beach and the sea. Explore mounting places for canons and an underground storage area for gunpowder. Get a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea and take a stroll along the beach with few shacks and a boating house. • Nice place to hangout on weekends. The boat journey across the river to reach the ocean is mindblowing. The boat journey is a must. The fort is small but offers an incredible view of river and the ocean. Ship building yard is also visible from this place

  • It is historic monumental place. This place little dirty. You can all local boats of the fishers there. If you cross the river passing by through a boat you can go to tannirbavi which is very nice place. Its costs Rs 5 per head to cross the river. Here the sunset view is amazing to see.
  • Love this place. You can just sit at one place, mind your own business and look at some fishermen building their boat.

Mangalore offers a diverse set of accommodations to its visitors, focusing on the city center and the coast. Look north of the central train station for the widest choice in town, where some luxury options line the more prominent boulevards, and a wealth of budget hotels cater to shoestring travelers. Along the coast, some characterful old hotels cluster around the port, and a couple of hotels put you right on the sands of the beaches.
