Sultan Battery, Mangalore
(2.7/5 based on 130 reviews on the web)
Enjoy views of scenic backwaters from Sultan Battery, the only material reminder of Tipu Sultan’s empire dismantled by the British. Built in 1784 on the headland of the old port to control the estuary of the Gurupura River, the fort features thick black stone walls overlooking the beach and the sea. Explore mounting places for canons and an underground storage area for gunpowder. Get a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea and take a stroll along the beach with few shacks and a boating house. • Nothing to write about for Sultan battery itself. It is just a small circular watch tower with 30 stairs to climb. The view from top is OK. A ferry runs every 15 mins from this place to Tannirbavi bea...  more »
  • Average place not properly maintained. Scope is there to maintain. But from here you can go by boat to tannirbavi beach.

  • Beautiful structure. Looks like a little fortress. Has a good view of the Gurupur river. Take a ferry ride to the other side of the river and enjoy the tannirubavi beach.
  • One of Mangalore's iconic place and a heritage site. Good place to spend time with family and friends in the evening by the river side. You can also take a ferry across the river to reach the new Tannirbhavi beach
  • Awesome place to visit in evening, can take a ferry ride to tannir bavi beach from here
  • Different experience every time..although some beachside actions such as beach biking ..horse riding..etc were closed out..but fun in the waters for sure
  • One of the best hangout places in Mangalore . Also a good spot for catching pokemons :P.
