Sultan Battery, Mangalore

2.8
#5 of 29 in Sightseeing in Mangalore
Historic Site Landmark
Enjoy views of scenic backwaters from Sultan Battery, the only material reminder of Tipu Sultan’s empire dismantled by the British. Built in 1784 on the headland of the old port to control the estuary of the Gurupura River, the fort features thick black stone walls overlooking the beach and the sea. Explore mounting places for canons and an underground storage area for gunpowder. Get a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea and take a stroll along the beach with few shacks and a boating house. • Beautiful watch tower built by Tipu sultan. The beach is also very nice. There is also a launch trip that can be taken on the beach. The view from the tower is awesome. Worth a visit.

  • Small place with a historical significance. A small ferry ride to the Tannirbhavi beach from this place is why people usually come here coz the roadway to Tannirbhavi beach is a very long route.
