Prashar Lake, Mandi
Categories: Bodies of Water, Nature & Parks
Surrounded by snowcapped peaks, Prashar Lake is the final destination of an easy but scenic trek that goes through forests, over several gullies, and past charming villages. The deep blue lake sits at a height of 2,730 m (8,957 ft) above sea level overlooking a swiftly flowing river. It features a floating island and a 13th century temple devoted to the sage Prashar, who had reportedly frequently meditated at the site. Legend has it that one of the Pandava brothers--characters from the epic Mahabharata--pushed his elbow against a mountain top thus forming the lake.
