The museum was established in 1995 on the campus of the centre of Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI) because of the historical significance of teak to the area. The world's first teak plantation was planted in Nilambur in the 1840s by the British.

  • This place is very well maintained and looked after. The world's first teak museum will give you many interesting informations which we never had thought while seeing a teak tree. Everything you want to know about teak is here. The vast garden around the museum is very beautiful. Particularly the butterfly garden is a 'wow'!
  • Excellent green space with a unique teak museum, Bio Nature Park, Butterfly Garden, Frogs playing chess, lovely landscapes, this is really nice place to see. Great photography opportunities. Need an hour to explore. There's ample car parking space. A sculpture of a global man holding a globe, sitting on a teak platform welcomes you at the entrance. The landscape with rock boulders and water flowing is a welcome sight. A teak tree cut and placed upside down exposes the roots at the entrance to the Museum. A huge truck of a teak tree is at the entrance of the Museum. Two huge logs are placed on a raised platform to help us know how exactly the wood used to be transported. Different varieties of teak trees are planted inside the Museum! The textures of teak, the slow-growing good teak, fast-growing bad teak samples are all kept on display. Various furniture used in Kerala in ancient times are on display, including a patthaayam or rice granary box. The Kerala style traditional build methods and model of a room with lighting are displayed nicely. The Museum includes a library and helps in research work, and for professionals involved in woodworks!
  • Nice place. Good garden. Clean washroom facility available. Lots of parking place. Ideal stopover for taking a break while travelling.
  • The beautiful biodiversity park behind the teak museum make up for lack-lusture experience there. The gardens swarming with butterflies and umpteen number of flora and fauna can intrigue the amature taxonomist in you.
  • One of the best places to visit in Nilambur. Great gardens. Excellent for natural lovers
