Create an itinerary including Shore Temple
An exploration of Shore Temple, a World Heritage Site, allows you to see how a historic trade junction became a place of worship. As you approach this 8th-century temple, notice how the site's outdoor pavilions were carved in granite rock. Dravidian architecture at its best, the shrine serves as both a popular tourist attraction and a major pilgrimage site, known for its many elaborate sculptures depicting various Hindu deities. Take a look at our Mahabalipuram trip itinerary planner to schedule your visit to Shore Temple and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • An iconic tourist destination in a very small town . It witness the century old monuments everywhere around the town. Because the monuments are situated with some amount of distance to one another...

  • Great location for this temple and all the more interesting if you have a guide that can explain the history / significance. Suggest visiting early or late to avoid the heat.

  • This temple is stunning and located near the sea shore. The ancient architecture and the sea view compliment each other so well. This temple has a marvelous architecture. This is a UNESCO Heritage site, and maintained very nicely. The sea beach also very clean and well maintained. Enough parking space available but bit crowded during weekends.
  • Absolutely amazing location. A temple on the shore is surely a sight to remember. The ancient architecture and the sea view compliment each other so well. Very photogenic spot. Get the tickets for all the monuments near the five Rathas
  • The shore temple has many good spots to take pictures and you can see the ancient temple with good sculptures. A good place for one day trip. With a group of friends we can enjoy a lot by playing in beach. Only things is climate is too hot. Better to carry a water bottle to keep yourself hydrated and carry an umbrella or cap. Bike and car parking is available in shore temple.
  • Beautiful place. Food plaza nearby. Ticket counter outside the temple. The sea sight is amazing. You can ride a horse and camel on the shore side. Overall a clean and picturesque place.
  • It's a rock temple, you can't go inside the temple exactly but you can roam outside of it. It's just besides a beach but you can't go to beach from inside the temple area. It's just peaceful to sit inside but it's very crowded. One issue we found is that no North Indian restaurants nearby and the South Indian restaurants were also too much crowded.
