  • A natural wonder and a very beautiful place with very historic things preserved.. a place of worship n caves near by.. and also a historic light house signifying the presence of beautiful sea shore nearby.. the view from the top is mesmerizing and sliding near the butterball is fun for kids.. climbing and exploring the caves can bring out a little adventure too.. a little but fun :)
  • Nice place with lots of history. About 20 odd monuments here to walk n see. Get ready to walk a bit. Carry a bottle of water.
  • Use to be a nice place to visit in my child hood. Now has become money making spot. Too crowded. Still can have some fun with kids
  • Marvelous piece of rock...and I never thought I would say that sentence in my life..still its amazing how the rock is balancing on such a steep slope..that too on just a small point..don't miss this one
  • Great ancestors... They had the idea or knowledge to balance this rock on a slanted surface... Perfect civil engineering I guess

Where to stay in Mahabalipuram

Given the importance of its major attractions, Mahabalipuram offers a good number of accommodations across its main urban area. Thanks to the popularity of its coast, it has a large number of accommodations by the beach, too. Choose between the backpacker-friendly area around Othavadai Street, where budget hostels and boutiques provide the main options, and the massive resorts along the beach. Alternatively, Chennai lies just two hours away by bus, so many travelers choose to stay in the large city to the north and simply take day trips Mahabalipuram.
