  • Simply astonishing when full of water. The greatness in thinking and vision of our ancient kings is unbelievable. Drain arrangements to collect rain water designed hundreds of year ago are wonderful. Glad to see the municipal corporation making good efforts to sustain the beauty of this place. Ideal spot for morning walkers. Sunrise is simply superb. Good spot to visit in the evenings with family and kids especially you can find low cost, native foods, simple entertainment for kids. Visit to nearby Muktheswarar temple and Mariamman temple takes just few mins of walk.
  • The Vandiyur Mariamman temple situated on the bank of the giant and beautiful teppakkulam. It will be pleasant to see when water is filled. During the summer season and most of the time it is used as playground. Sri Mukkuruni Vinayagar idol in Sri Meenakshi Amman temple was found when digging this pond. People of Madurai make their evenings happy by spending time here. Sri Meenakshi and Sri Sundareswarar will come here and bless the people from the 'Teppam'and the festival is called as 'Teppathiruvizha'. During that day the main doors of Sri Meenakshi Amman temple will be closed.
  • The Teppakulam is where the king Thirumalai Naicker excavated the soil to fabricate the bricks required for constructing his palace, Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal. The pit that was thus formed is seen as tank now. It is approximately 305 m long and 290 m wide, nearly equal area to that of Meenakshi Amman Temple. Built in 1645 A.D.,this is the biggest tank in Tamil Nadu. 7 foot tall Mukuruny Vinayakar idol in Meenakshi Amman Temple is believed to be found during excavation process of this pond.
  • Very old historical monument....Still preserved....very good views when water is to the brim....
  • Nice place for families to hang around in the evening..
