Wander through the historic palace, and discover the blood-stained clothes worn by Gandhi when he was assassinated in 1948. You’ll also find many letters of interest on display, as well as collections relating to India's fight for freedom, Gandhi's life story, and the nation's political history. Where to stay in Madurai

Nestled in the central district close to the main religious sites lie a number of budget and mid-range accommodations. Located on the tangle of streets of this central area, the hotels and hostels have little space to work with, but offer rooms right in the heart of the city. If you're looking for something with a little more room to move and a more relaxing atmosphere, have a look at what's on offer in the more suburban areas to the west, and north across the river. Luxury hotels and resorts mimic the city's past regality, with infinity pools galore, fine-dining restaurants, and well-appointed rooms.

  • The exhibits available here for display are applauding and they are also cleaned regularly. It is a must visit in Madurai.  more »

  • Poorly maintained museum. Age old patterns. Faded photographs. No emergency light during power cut. Looks dark even in day and no ventilation. Staff are just sitting and chatting. No one to guide. 2 stars for the name and for the palace.
  • If you looking for really nice museum related to just Mahatma Gandhi, then you are at right place. Museum is created in very big area and each and everything related to him can be found here. Only 1 bad thing...There is no one to guide the person who doesn't know about Gandhi's. Overall it is good. Staff is good here.
  • One of the best museums I have been to. It covers the entire Indian independence through paintings and pictures. It preserves the cloth that Gandhi ji wore when he was shot. Also, there is a book store just next to the museum which has some great and inexpensive books.
  • Good place to visit but not must type. Skip this place if in hurry. Place is empty only photos are there.
  • Peaceful, calm and a patriotic place. Has an array of Mahatma's accessories. Entry ticket is low and parking facilities are good too. A perfect place to spend some quality time.
