Chelavara Falls, Madikeri
(3.8/5 based on 120+ reviews on the web)
Enjoy lush greenery and fabulous hidden treasure of Coorg at Chelavara Falls, a natural waterfall formed by a stream amidst green coffee plantation. Pouring from 46 m (150 ft), over a rock cascade resembling a tortoise, the falls are known as Emepaare in the local language which is a word for a tortoise in Kodava language. The water crashes into a large pool and you will get sprayed by the water. You can abseil down the falls and dip yourself in the pool but you should be careful during the rainy season. Chelavara Falls is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Kodagu (Coorg) Edition.

  • Falls is located in the middle of coffee plantation..small and beautiful falls..but lil bit dangerours..roads are wokay
  • One of the best waterfalls in the vicinity of Kodagu. Do visit if you want to take a bath in the natural water.
  • Amazing place in the middle of coffee plantations. The water falls from a height of 100 feet. Risky to go into the falls. People have died in there. Follow instructions, do not litter and be responsible.
  • Been here twice. When it rains this place turns more beautiful
  • An exhilarating experience to stand on the rock few meters away from the foot of the waterfall... It's risky to get in the water, it's risky to reach the top of the waterfall as well - many deaths reported. Last 200 meters trek to the waterfall is good, the roads till this point is good for a Jeep and ok for cars.
