Abbi Falls, Madikeri
Categories: Waterfalls, Nature & Parks
Take a drive or hike up to Abbi Falls, a scenic cascade on the Kaveri River. Enjoy a stroll through verdant plantations filled with black pepper vines, coffee shrubs, and lush green trees to reach the waterfall, best admired from a hanging bridge constructed across the cascade. Flowing thunderously during the monsoon season, the falls can seem comparatively underwhelming in dry weather. You can't swim at the base of the falls. Beautiful place, but not able to play in water when we went around April 2015. We have to walk through the jungle to see this falls. Can spend max 1 hour if only viewing is involved. It closes at 6 pm. They should enable this place for night time also till 9 pm may be with additional infrastructure. Will add more life and beauty to the spot
Coorg is a cool place in Karnataka State. Abbi Falls remains cooler in all aspects. The water flow is heavy in the rains, as the Cauvery River will be in spate. But during Summer, you can take bath below the falls. It's very dangerous to go above the falls, though. Many have slipped and fallen to death. There is no safety measures above the falls. There is a walkway bridge from where you can view the falls, and you stand over the River. It's very enjoyable for half an hour. Not more than that. Do not miss the oranges sold here. It's small and sweet.
Earlier u were allowed to go near the falls. But now its blocked nd also nw the water is falling like a group of ppl peeing :D... just kidding. (Dry season). Only good for taking snaps of waterfall behind. The narrow walkway bridge was closed for maintenance work. Dated 24/04/16
If you love nature and tour far and wide in order to feel it, then this is place is recommendable. For people looking for fun and adventure though, it can be a let down. Tourists aren't allowed to go inside the water all year round. When the flow is less and current is not so strong, water activities are allowed. Careful though, these waters have leaches.
If you are planning to visit abbi falls then prepare your self accordingly. Wear shows because path towards falls is not good.
