Ekvira Devi Temple, Lonavala
(3.9/5 based on 95+ reviews on the web)
See a once-center of Buddhism, now a Hindu temple in the cave at Ekvira Devi Temple. The Goddess Ekvira is worshipped in the caves by the Koli fishermen community and the local tribes. Participate in the festivals organized here, ranging from traditional dances to folk musical festivals, all in the name of the Hindu goddess. The somewhat tiring climb is eased by ample shops for refreshment and resting areas, and rewarded with spectacular view from the temple. Be careful of the monkeys and protect your valuables. Taking photos is prohibited. Choose to start, finish, or center your holiday on a trip to Ekvira Devi Temple by using our Lonavala itinerary builder.

  • Nice devotional place. Way to Ekveera Devi Temple & Karla Caves is the same. 500 steps to reach to this beautiful place. The only bad thing is the entire hill looks dirty because people have littered it to the core. Defaulters should be heavily fined, only than people will know the importance of cleanliness.
  • Very good place to visit mostly between September and December.Difficult to climb steps during summer.Mostly Agari-Koli community people visit Ekvira Devi Temple.
  • This place is near to Karla caves and is worshipped by Kori caste. It is aside Karla caves, historic place and must visit during rainy season. You would be mesmerised to see the water falls. Parking of vehicles is done on the hills and then you will reach entrance gate. Then You have to climb many big stairs to reach at top. On the way, you will find many shops and restaurants. Be careful while going as stones get slippery during rainy season. At the top, you will find Goddess Ekvira Temple and Buddhist chaitya(a worshiping place looks like stupa but is inside a building.) People try to put coins on chaitya by throwing. On pillars you will find some scriptures. For visiting chaitya, you have to buy pass from Archaeological survey office. The cave have two portions. One at front other somewhat side to temple. Reaching and visiting may take upto 2 hours.
