Likir Gompa, Leh
Categories: Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
Travel the scenic mountain road to Likir Gompa, nestled at a high altitude with memorable views of the surrounding lofty landscape. One of the oldest monasteries in the region, the original structure supposedly dated back almost 1,000 years, when it was constructed by King Lhachen Gyalpo. Since then, it has undergone destruction and reconstruction. Observe the gigantic golden statue of the Buddha, visible from far away as you approach, and once at the monastery, venture on to the roof for outstanding views across the hills. A visit to Likir Gompa represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Leh vacation planner to plot your vacation.
