Changla Pass, Ladakh
(4.5/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
At an altitude of 5,360 m (17,590 ft) above sea level, explore Changla Pass--the third-highest drivable road in the world. Maintained and guarded by the Indian Army, the pass remains open throughout the year, except during the clearing of snow. Examine the remarkable panoramic view of the snow-capped Himalayas, and visit nearby landmarks including two lakes, a valley, and a monastery. Take necessary precautions while visiting this area, since it can get extremely cold and hard to adapt to low oxygen levels. Wear very warm clothing with covered ears and appropriate footwear at all times. With our international travel planner, Hemis attractions like Changla Pass can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • The road that took us from Leh to Hunder is good and bad at the same time. Beautiful because it offers amazing views, bad because, as all roads in Ladakh, is partly paved and not always subject to landslides. However at some point here is step Changla, as everywhere full of bikers. It is the third highest motorable road in the world step (17688 feet = 5391 m). There are a couple of places of refreshment and so we stopped to get something to eat. As always the cheery atmosphere casino is the great thing.

  • There are different signs indicating the heights of the kardung-La and this Chang-La but with 5360 m this seems to be 20 m higher. When we passed here, there were many military trucks, but we had fun ...  more »
  • Changla pass, the second highest motorable road in the world. Go there, experience it. Writing for beauties of Leh-ladakh, I am lost for words. These places need to be witnessed with your own eyes.
