Belum Caves, Kurnool

4.5
#1 of 19 in Things to do in Kurnool
Delve into Belum Caves for a journey through one of the longest limestone cave systems on the Indian subcontinent. The caves feature long passages, freshwater galleries, and spacious chambers--and lots of stalactites and stalagmites. Historians believe these caverns were occupied by Buddhist and Jain monks centuries ago, which makes them an important site for both scientists and worshippers. • One time visit only I will say, inside the cave, the atmosphere was too humid that I almost fainted, not at all recommended for kids and old people, it is quite suffocative with no help inside the cav...  more »

  • Belum cave is awesome place. Went with minimum expectation and was super thrilled with the caves,Awesome natural structures. The guide was very helpful , but a torch light could have been given for the visitors to borrow. The Tap outside to wash and drinking water is very welcome and soothing after the visit. Proper shoes is a must. But the Restaurant is very ill equipped. A must visit to the Caves, but Do not forget to carry water, food , torch, umbrella.........gets very hot even in winter .
  • Belum caves are easily the largest caves around Bangalore. Looks us more than two hours to make the inside trip, considering 40% of the cave closed for maintenance due to rains In some places the cave is as big as an mid sized auditorium, other wise is narrow. But the good point is all most all the paths are paved.
  • One of best travel experience I have. It is the longest and largest natural cave system opened for public. Don't visit this on rainy day,. Part of cave is closed because of mud when were visiting. If you have breathing problem please go with support. Because inside the cave temperature will be little bit high and oxygen flow also low.
  • A must visit place and is a adventure experience. It is a natural cave and walking inside the cave is memorable. Its second largest in India. You will need more than 1 hr to visit the entire cave. We went from Bangalore after long night drive after reaching there we come to know there is no hotel/accommodation near by. One guest house is available there with 5-6 rooms, but one had to reserve before. So plan accordingly.
  • Belum cave is a superb natural phenomenon. You get amazed by the underground structure, coloured lighting adds stars to its beauty. Only some part of the cave is accessible to tourists, again some of that too is currently closed due to mud and will reopen around march, still visiting these caves is good experience. There is no sufficient staying arrangement available in nearby area, Haritha resort has only 3 rooms, if you are planning to stay there, you need to check availability before you go there.
