Suriyanar Koil, Kumbakonam

See one of the few historic temples devoted to the Sun god, Suriyanar, and the only temple in Tamil Nadu with shrines for all the planetary deities at Suriyanar Koil. Observe the Dravidian architecture of the Vijayanagar period, all the way from the 11th century, as well as the masonry of a five-storey gopura tower and the granite wall enclosing all the shrines of the temple. Participate in the service with worship being held with pipe and percussion instruments, religious instructions read by priests, and prostration by devotees in front of the temple mast. Light a set of lamps to show reverence and obtain good luck. • Nice temple, I went during peak summer. I would suggest a evening time. All other Gods from navagraha present within the premises. Don't miss. Ample parking present, but you need to walk at least 200m Sugarcane juice at the right corner, when you enter is a place to visit too.
  • This holy temple is not properly maintained. Lord Syrian is the father of Lord Emadharmarjar and saneewarar. And thus he is the Lord of purity and honest. So also we have do follow the human drama inside the temple at least.
  • It's a Hindu pilgrimage place and it's a normal temple dedicated to Sun god. Nothing of a tourist spot and no extraordinary sculptures to see...
  • Spritual Hindu temple to visit especially for suriyan dhosam nivarthi
  • For special dharsan they are providing some other receipt which is irrelevant. Cheated the devotees.
