Kappad Beach, Kozhikode
(3.7/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web)
The historic spot where Vasco da Gama landed in Kerala, Kappad Beach remains a clean rock-studded stretch of red sand where you can dip your feet in the blue water or watch fishermen draw their long nets. Serene and tranquil compared to other area beaches, this attraction features a modest obelisk marking the historic landing site and an 800-year-old temple, adding a bit culture to an otherwise ordinary sun-and-sand experience. • Didn't read the reviews before visiting the place, so I was expecting a typical Indian beach. On my arrival I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was empty, clean and calm! The beach is separated from the road by a paved park of sorts. This provides seating space to sit and relax in nature's lap. Some ramps are built here that project into the sea and you can walk right up to the end to get some pleasant sights. The roads leading to the beach are pretty narrow, but comfortable to reach on a bike. Parking is available and there is a police station right outside the beaches entrance (FYI)
  • It is a quiet beach with fine sandy shores that slope gradually. Clean water; unlike Kovalam where jelly fish remnants get to you. Safe to swim with children. Nice warm water.
  • Kappad beach is the only one beach in Malabar which is not crowded and polluted. Most charming beach with beautiful scenes like rocks, greenery, temple on rock top, high level resorts and more… Most tourists comes here to enjoy and hang out with family, it is very clean place and most area interlocked with seating arrangement. No tension for parking, there is wide area to park vehicles. It is historical place, the first European Vasco De Gama (Portuguese) landed here in A.D. 1498, and thereafter colonial rule started in India till 1947. There is a stone monument to speak the historic importance of kappad beach.
  • Without a doubt I can say this is the best beach in Kozhikode. Very peaceful, calm and quite beach. No high waves, no garbages in the beach, absolutely a good place to have fun with family or friends. Parking is not a problem here and water is quite good compared to murky and smelly water in Beypore. This is the place where the Europeans first landed in India. Sunset in the Arabian sea is a great view from here. The beach is clean and maintained well. Sky and the sea meet at the horizon, creating a hue of blue; reflecting the sky. There are many migratory birds...beautiful beach...will definitely get beautiful pictures. ..kappad beach will always remain in your hearts...
  • Serene environment, good beach and has two beach side resorts in the proximity but bit costly. However, few cheap options for eating nearby.
