Thangassery Light House, Kollam

4.5
#1 of 8 in Historic Sites in Kollam
Climb the stairs and enjoy the panorama from Thangassery Light House, the tallest lighthouse on the coast of Kerala. Built in 1902, this 43 m (144 ft) tall cylindrical tower features red and white diagonal stripes, making it a landmark of the area. Look back down at the interesting pattern created by the spiral staircase inside the tower, then see the sun set and the moon rise simultaneously. With its red oblique bands, the structure resembles a giant candy cane from afar. • Very nice view. 20 rupees adult entry, 50 for foreigners, 10 for senior citizens. An extra 10 if you want to take photos. Definitely worth it. You can see the whole of Kollam at one go. You have to remove footwear on entry. Parking is a little difficult. About 20 minutes would do to see the whole thing. Lift is available inside but some steps are unavoidable. Very neat and friendly service.
  • A good place to hangout for a day with family/friends. Renovation is going on. Authorities have added a children's park & walk bay near to the light house. Escalator is available inside the light house for those who can't use stairs. We will get a beautiful view of entire quilon at the top of light house.
  • Very beautiful view from up here. One can see the harbour on one side, the sea on another and the beautiful green landscape of Kollam dotted with a few buildings on another side. However the place tends to get crowded in the evening post 5pm. So I suggest going in the morning or earlier in the evening for a better experience.
  • Lovely place to visit. Good view of Arabian sea and quilon town. Well maintained. Cordial staff.
  • Its worth to go there and have an amazing view to the beach, church and city... for foreign entry ticket is 50rps and 10rps for taking pics... there is a lift to go up as well as stairs, so its up to u to chose how ti reach the top...
