Enjoy lush greenery and tranquility of Munroe Island, an archipelago of eight islands at the confluence of the Ashtamudi Lake and the Kallada River. Named by a British colonel who abolished slavery on the island in 1835 and built canals, the island makes a great retreat for nature lovers with its combination of waterways and diverse vegetation. Watch fishermen push their long traditional boats and see women make ropes from coconut fiber. The island makes a good spot for bird watching with many migratory birds. Take a boat tour and watch mangrove plants and coconut trees from the water. For travelers who use our online itinerary creator, Kollam holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Munroe Island and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.
