Find out about the history and religion of the British in Hindustan through St. John's Church, the third-oldest church in India. The church, first being a cathedral, was among the first objects commissioned by the East India Company, after Kolkata became the capital of British India. See the tall columns which frame the temple on its sides, the floor made of a rare marble with blue-grey color, and large stained glass windows which allow the sunlight to be filtered in colors, adding to the atmosphere of reverence and tranquility. Observe the burial sites of famous British governor and merchant families. • Nice and beautiful Church which must be visit durin stay in Kolkata, surounded by street hawkers difficult to find.
  • Nice church... And also houses the mausoleum of job charnock the founder of Kolkata...
  • The Presence of God. The Hymns played by Johnny Purty on the Old Pipe Organ will surely fill your Heart & Soul. The Calmness is lovely.. Yes Not to forget its a House of God and All Visitors should Respect that..
  • One of the oldest Church in "Calcutta", most probably the third, it makes you relaxed and pure simply by its presence. It makes you humble. It gifts you a moment of quietude. Bliss of Solitude. The age old piano, or the huge painting of The Last Supper, Its unearthly even in broad daylight. The very essence of something ethereal. It has its own cemetery and the most important person sleeping an eternal sleep there is Job Charnock. The mousoleum is very beautiful. The Black Hole Monument, and the Rohila War Monument are among the other major architectural structures there. But you can always hear Time's winged chariot hurrying near as you look at the high columns and the painting of the church itself. Its decaying. The heritage dying. Its high time that the Authorities take some responsibilities to return to this place the glory it deserves. It can easily be one of the most interesting tourist spot.
  • An Essence of kolkata at its nascent stage.
