Categories: Bodies of Water, Nature & Parks
Inspirock Rating:
4.2/5 based on 110+ reviews on the web
Known as the lungs of Kolkata, Rabindra Sarovar offers a quiet getaway from a city hustle with its landscaped mounds and ornamental shrubs. Stroll on its pebbled walkways, jog, cycle, picnic on a green lawn, or simply rest under the shade of old trees listening to birds chirping. The highlights include an open-air theatre, a Buddhist temple, an island with a mosque and a suspension bridge, and a safari garden. The lake and its surroundings were created in 1958 in the area that used to be covered in marshy jungles. Today, it is considered an ecological reserve, though it has some issues with vandalism acts and poor maintenance.
