Mother's Wax Museum, Kolkata (Calcutta)

Tour larger than life figures at Mother's Wax Museum, India’s first wax museum located in an unconventionally shaped modern building in New Town. Mingle with wax images of Indian national heroes and celebrities and get a close up view of Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Mother Theresa, Diego Maragona and Spiderman. Dressed in their original attire, these well-done statues provide a great photo opportunity but you can actually do this with the idols in their respective setting like read a book with Tagore or sit on a presidential chair. A well-lit futuristic blue glass wall in the lobby has a collection of famous sayings for which these grandees are known for. The museum has two bonsai gardens with cafeterias on each side. • Too much hype has been created for the place. The wax models are not at all up to the mark. Not worth a visit.  more »

  • Very nice place, excellent place and a mind blowing place to visit and enjoy with friends or family. Specially the children will love this place and enjoy undoubtedly. The statues made of wax of the great persons and the renowned personalities have well been presented here with a great ambiance and excellent atmosphere. The museum is kept well maintained and well administered. It is very much neat and clean place. Although some figures are not accurately similar than the original, still it is a lovely wax museum. The tattoo place is really exceptionally beautiful and amazing. I have seen that the visitors are dancing in the dazzling lights unanimously and spontaneously as of me and my family and taking photos or videos. Really enjoyable section. Finally it is a must visited place without any hesitation. Excellent- Excellent and Excellent experience.
  • A good initiative to build a wax museum. Has many sections- actors, writers, musicians, directors, poets, musicians, cricketers, footballers, cartoon as well, both national and international. A brief description about the personality is there. A photogenic museum. Click with as many famous people as you want to.
  • Ideal place for kids and families. There are wax statues for celebrities in major fields of art, science, sports, entertainment and fictional characters. Best is that you have them under one-roof which makes your visit worthwhile. A time spent with elderly family members is memorable for them as they tend to develop a sense of nostalgia.
  • Very nice place. Ticket cost is 250 per adult a bit expensive, but as soon as u will enter the museum, u will feel that the money u spend was worth it. I especially loved the horror section but remember not to take kids inside that section. Overall a great experience. My phone dried but thanks to my wife as she was carrying a small digital camera. ** Get ur phone full charged or of possible do carry a power bank, coz u can not stop yourself from clicking hundreds of pictures.
  • I would give it 4.5 if google allowed me to. Really well maintained. The wax models pretty much resemble real life figures they depict. The only thing that stops from revisiting is the high entry fee of 250 rupee per head as of Dec 2017.
