Dedicated to the goddess Kali, Kalighat Kali Temple is a Hindu temple and one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, consecrated places of worship. Every day, thousands of pilgrims visit this site set on the bank of a canal to pay their respects to a goddess that resembles a mother to them. The image of Kali itself is unique in this temple, differing from others with its three huge eyes, tongues made of gold, and four hands. As you wander, look for the Sosthi Tala, a sacred altar where all the priests are female. Put Kalighat Kali Temple at the forefront of your travel plans using our Kolkata (Calcutta) itinerary maker.

  • it will be a nightmare visiting kalighat. dirty pandas in and out the temple trying to grab money from the visitors. The government has no control over this menance the temple. Even the cops at location just not interested to stop this panda menance at the temple. There is no holiness in the temple until these people are removed from there.the place almost looks like a busy market yard rather than a holy shrine.I felt pity on myself for i visited the place with my family after travelling 900kms.. NO holiness .i hope i will visit kolkata again but not KALIGHAT.
  • Pundits will ruin your experience. Now a days it's nothing new that pundits and pujaris are running behind money. Gone those days where you could worship God with peace. Once you enter the complex of Kalighat Kali temple, lot of pujaris and pundits will force you to remove your chappals at their place, they will force you to buy prasads from their stalls and also, they will force you to do Pooja. It's worst experience visiting here. This temple is very small and you can't even stand more than2 second as pundits force you toove out
  • One of the oldest temple of India, Dirty, ill-maintained and place is full of 'panda's. Piece of advice, Stay away from them if you wanna save your money. But if you want a short, time-saving and comfy entry to the temple and you are new, you might just hire one. And you can do a little shopping around here too, Prices are bit high, but you could buy a memento.
  • Kalighat Kali Temple (Bengali: কালীঘাট মন্দির) is a Hindu temple in West Bengal, Indiadedicated to the Hindu goddess Kali. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. Kalighat was a Ghat (landing stage) sacred to Kali on the old course of the Hooghly river(Bhāgirathi) in the city of Calcutta. The name Calcutta is said to have been derived from the word Kalighat. The river over a period of time has moved away from the temple. The temple is now on the banks of a small canal calledAdi Ganga which connects to the Hoogly. The Adi Ganga was the original course of the river Hoogly (the Ganges). Hence the name Adi(original) Ganga.
  • One of the most popular holy places in the City. Always packed up with crowd, but securities conditions not enough from my view. Also all Panda ( puja time helper) always hungry for eating devotes money.
