Architectural Building Historic Site
Admire a red, three-story colonial mansion with cream bordures, latticed guardrails, and dark green louvers at Jorasanko Thakur Bari, the ancestral home of the Tagore family. Built in 1785, the complex now houses Rabindra Bharati University. The main building in which Rabindranath Tagore, the poet and first non-European Nobel laureate, was born and died has now been converted into a museum. See a photo exhibition and personal belongings of Rabindranath, as well as some of his paintings. Relax in the green inner courtyard of this 35,000 sq m (376,737 sq ft) complex, and see a Soviet-made bust of Tagore on a marble pedestal.
