  • Beautiful old-school museum with a great permanent collection of artifacts, art and fossils that draw you back to a different era, when museums were more of what they need to be, learning centers and institutions to be revered. I loved every minute I spent inside this museum, and I got to revisit much of the knowledge I had before. Also I got to remember certain aspects of knowledge that are long gone and re-explored, but still shown and, perhaps, believed valid in this place. This is a place you want to visit if you, like myself, believe it is important to visit museums every where you travel. You'll learn much about India and its understanding of the world, but you'll also have to transport yourself to a different time; a time when you were expected to know things about the items you'd experience at the museum. The information provided in front of each work of art, or fossil, etc., is very limited and/or cryptic in a way, so have at the very least a good smart phone with access to the web and a good charge, you'll need it. The grounds and showrooms are not very well kept, and people constantly litter. The bathrooms are ok, but could be better. The grassy atrium area is cool to hang out and relax, if that's what you choose to do too.
  • Amazing and majestic architecture, takes you back in time. They have some good collections too, ancient statues and many artefacts from all over the world. My favourite is the Egyptian one where they have a mummy also. Must attend if there is any concert or special event, it’s magical, especially if it is classical music. The surroundings are sure to enchant you and want to keep on listening as we did last time. It has been renovated a couple of years ago so now you can enjoy the beauty of this heritage building and its exhibitions in its best state.
  • Located near park street metro station and esplanade market, it is one of the most amazing places to visit when in Kolkata. It has a lot of sections from fossils to old paintings ,from masks to ecosystem, dinosaurs, aquatic life, etc. The museum houses of the oldest mummies in the history which is a major attraction. It is not advisable to visit during peak summer season as the insides are not ventilated and it becomes really hot inside. You have esplanade market and many eateries near by so after the visit, that can be planned. Also, one important information is that it closes at 5 pm, so recommend to reach early as it will take at least 2 hours to visit the whole museum even if done in a speedy manner
  • Could be better, much well kept. However it has improved a lot in the last few years. At least now its clean and worth a visit. The visit should be made more enjoyable by putting up more photos and facts along with the artifacts.
  • It is the best museum of India. As per my knowledge it is the largest and oldest museum of India. It was the best place to know about the past things as it has rare collection of antiques, fossils, skeleton and various types of paintings. It also contains scientific artifacts. The decoration and the design of the museum was brilliant . This museum was created by sir William Jones in 1784. When I entered this museum I completely felt myself as in the age of stone. This is a wonderful museum. The collection of antiques of this museum was really superb. It contains Egyptian human mummy about 4, 000 yrs old, which is very scaring. People said that its heart is still inside while all other organs were taken out.Te museum is also considered as the “beginning of the modernity and the end of medival era”.Really it was very wonderful journey to the museum.
