Siddhagiri Museum, Kolhapur
Categories: Specialty Museums, Museums
At Siddhagiri Museum, imagine how life was like in a self-sufficient dream village of Mahatma Gandhi, before the Mughals’ invasion in Maharasht. Walk through nearly 80 vivid historic scenes, recreated with 300 cement dolls depicting healthy and joyful interpersonal relationships among villagers--craftspeople at work and families at home. Enter the house of a village priest, a goldsmith’s workshop, and a barber shop. See images of farmers plowing, grandmas stitching, and villagers performing devotional songs. The museum was built with the help from Siddhagiri Gurukul Foundation Trust on a serene hilly terrain overgrown with lush vegetation. It also houses an ancient temple with a 13 m (42 ft) tall Shiva idol. Put Siddhagiri Museum into our Kolhapur family vacation planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.
