  • Great architecture but it’s not very popular, you will find less crowd Kopeshwar Temple (Lord Siva) is at Khidrapur on Krishna River, the temple is made up of Black stone. From Kolhapur it’s near abt 60km Route: Kolhapur- Jayasingpur- Narsinhwadi- Kurundwad- Sainik Takli- Khidrapur While travelling above route u can see the only crop that you see on both sides of the road is the Sugar Cane. Absolute green Sugar cane fields filled with loads of water, black soil and loads of birds surrounding them. On Kolhapur - Jayasingpur road small shops are their where u can Drink fresh Sugar Cane juices, sweet corn try & buy "Amba Bhadang" from Jayasingpur (its vry famous thing) I suggest buy this pack bcoz @Khidrapur u not getting anything to eat. Visit Narsinhwadi(Narsobachi vadi) place of Lord Datta and teast Pedha and Kardant barfi.
  • A good place to visit to see the marvelous sculpture... Not popular though, but at least one time visit for sure...
  • This is one of the master piece of ancient people. Temperature just dropped down by 10degree as soon as you enter the temple. Excellent view from inside and inside opening to see moon on special occasions is spectacular. I have gone twice to this temple
  • Its one of the ancient temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. The pillars are intrinsically carved and the finishing is just too good. One needs to pay special attention to the pillars at the entrance, pillars inside the temple (2nd gate) and the pillars just before the entrance to main stunbha. More importantly, the carvings on outside although deface by some miscreants still remind of the intrinsic work and one would only appreciate the sincerity and the efforts put in at that stage when the construction technology are primitive and devoid of modern tools and techniques. A Master Piece for those who love the touch of ARTISTS & CRAFTSMANSHIP which makes this yet another "MUST VISIT" temple. Would appreciate if Archaeological Society of India and our own people do something to prevent it from being defaced and maintain its serenity and sovereignty
  • Kopeshwar Madir, Kolhapur No words to describe the beauty of the temple, you vist and feel it. That's what I can say! This temple is situated in vilage Khidrapur. This is the Shiva Temple which is not having NANDI @entrance. Strange and having historic background. But really feeling sad that this place is ruined by Mughal Emporers and and later according to their name place has been named as 'Khidrapur'. So I would recommned to call this place as KOPESHWAR only. It is sad that most of the sculptures are badly damaged by Islamic invaders in the later centuries. There are 12 superbly carved pillars which support the stone ceiling that is open to the sky. When you keep mirror below on ground you see the ceiling like FULL MOON. There are 4 parts of temple - Swarga Mandap, Sabhamandap, Antaral-kaksha and Garbhagriha. Garbhagriha, where shiva linga is there, this place is cool and dark. you have to enter with torch after 'Swarga Mandap'. Must visit this place, if you are planning to visit Kolhapur.
