Pillar Rocks, Kodaikanal

3.6
#2 of 11 in Sightseeing in Kodaikanal
Lookout Tourist Spot
Jutting out from the surrounding forest, Pillar Rocks create an imposing natural focal point amid an already dramatic landscape. The three giant rock pillars, around 122 m (400 ft) in height, rise out of a thick surrounding forest. The main viewpoint from which to see the rocks can get pretty busy, but definitely wait your turn to see them unobstructed. At such a great height, clouds regularly cover the pillars, but when they break through, the effect is all the more memorable. Using our custom trip planner, Kodaikanal attractions like Pillar Rocks can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Nothing much exciting. Lots and lots of crowd. The view is breath taking. The rock ate in shape of pillar. Could not take family pic because it is usually crowded like hell all the time.  more »

  • Awesome view. Excellent experience you can ever get. Must watch place in kodaikkanal. Try to be there before 5pm , entrance is not allowed after 5pm. Great view below from there.
  • Great place to have a look at the rear view of Guna caves. There is a bit of history associated with this place ( read up or ask the forest department personnel). The mist might play spoilsport, depending on the inclement weather. Parking gets haphazard during the weekend. Rupees 20 & 5 entry fee for adults & kids( more than 5 years) respectively.
  • Good scenic view preferably in the morning sunrise as the sunlight falls on the rock. Prefer to visit before 9 am during Combined holidays as now Kodai roads are occupied with traffic and literally you stand in traffic and waste easily 2 hrs. Bread omlet only on the street shops tastes good and also the fresh carrots.
  • A must see place in Kodaikanal. At around 2 PM onwards, the fog starts to cover the entire area and you should be lucky enough to see the pillar rocks then. If you manage to see through the fog, it would be a feast to the eyes. Check out some cool pics below. There is an entry fee of Rs 5 per person.
  • Beautiful view to watch it during the perfect season. Park ur vehicles on the road, pay a entry fee of 10 and watch those rocks. U can actually see the rock from the road itself. Pay the fee and enter if u want to enjoy another valley view along with those pillar rocks.

Where to stay in Kodaikanal

Unsurprisingly, the most upmarket accommodations in Kodaikanal sit by the lake. Offering extensive views of the central water features and the hills rolling off into the horizon, the rooms in such establishments usually come with a nice set of amenities including onsite spas, restaurants, and pools. Shoestring travelers that want a central location can opt for simple hotels in the town center to the east, while those wanting to get out of town altogether will find a few scattered hotels along the main roads, as well as rental bungalows in secluded spots.
