Chinese Fishing Nets, Kochi (Cochin)

When in Kochi, make a short stop at Fort Kochi to admire Chinese Fishing Nets, representing an authentic fishing method and a landmark of the city. Although their name suggests Chinese heritage, the nets probably originate from Portuguese settlers who had colonies in Southern China. The unusual nets are fixed on bamboo or teak pillars and are lowered into the sea. Take a walk along the beach to admire the famous Kochi vista of the large, hammock-like nets appearing to float in mid-air, or purchase some of the fresh seafood being pulled out of the sea. • Old type of catching fish, had a history behind it that Chinese came to Kochi as others coming from different countries for the interest of business. People of Kochi had learned about this process from the Chinese. Very interesting.
  • These nets have great history behind them. Unfortunately the beach is not very clean. Kerala is known for it's beauty, but this place surely needs a bit a tidying up. Also, the fisherman call on tourists to try the nets but then tell you there's a fee involved. So be warned. Overall it's an ok place to visit. But Kerala has more to offer.
  • Good old style of fishing but understand now it’s very poor catch. May slowly dwindle down. But worth watching them in action.
  • Good to take walk down the street. Fishing net seems to be start of the fun walkalomg the coast.
  • Nice place.Can enjoy evenings
