Chinese Fishing Nets, Kochi (Cochin)

When in Kochi, make a short stop at Fort Kochi to admire Chinese Fishing Nets, representing an authentic fishing method and a landmark of the city. Although their name suggests Chinese heritage, the nets probably originate from Portuguese settlers who had colonies in Southern China. The unusual nets are fixed on bamboo or teak pillars and are lowered into the sea. Take a walk along the beach to admire the famous Kochi vista of the large, hammock-like nets appearing to float in mid-air, or purchase some of the fresh seafood being pulled out of the sea. • Wow, an awesome place to visit and see the Chinese Fishing Nets, especially when the fishing is going on.... And it's best to hang around to see how the fish is sold on "auction" basis and everything is gone, within a short time. Outside, there are refrigerated stalls, where all kinds of sea food is sold. One can by in Kilos or half kilos (or whatever quantities one wants). Nearby, there are nearby restaurants and they will cook the fist to your taste. A great experience at the Chinese Fishing Nets
  • Best is to hop into any shack next to the nets & munch on to some delicious fresh seafood. Best to visit towards sunset. One can also try his/ her hands on by operating fishing net They might charge you anywhere between 100 - 500 depending on your bargaining skills.
  • Chinese fishing nets" in India, the more formal name for such nets is "shore operated lift nets". You will also get to see the locals using cast net for fishing. You get fresh dishes here which can be bought and then cooked in the restaurant nearby.
  • It's nice to see how fishes are caught right in front of your eyes. How the traditional way of fishing still exists at "Fort Cochin". You can also purchase these fresh fishes, have these fishes cooked to your taste for INR 500 rupees. Get your fishes cooked with butter garlic.
  • You will find lots of varieties of fishes here. Not only fishes, but also squids, crabs, etc are available here. As per your wish, they will cook the seafood and serve it to you then and there itself. There are adequate seating arrangements available there. There are even Juice shops and much more, which are also quite good.
