Chinese Fishing Nets, Kochi (Cochin)

(3.3/5 based on 2,400+ reviews on the web)
When in Kochi, make a short stop at Fort Kochi to admire Chinese Fishing Nets, representing an authentic fishing method and a landmark of the city. Although their name suggests Chinese heritage, the nets probably originate from Portuguese settlers who had colonies in Southern China. The unusual nets are fixed on bamboo or teak pillars and are lowered into the sea. Take a walk along the beach to admire the famous Kochi vista of the large, hammock-like nets appearing to float in mid-air, or purchase some of the fresh seafood being pulled out of the sea. Chinese Fishing Nets is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Kochi (Cochin) Edition.

  • Interesting place. Completely disorganised with all manner of vendors, cars parked haphazardly. In short, any normal Indian tourist spot
  • Symbol of Kerala tourism hate to say, this technique needs to be preserved with funds. Few Chinese official s have visited them though and offered funds but it's up to Kochi Tourism to maintain them well. Tourists can get live fish as fried and get to know the technique.
