It is said to have been built during 725-756 CE. The foundation of the temple is said to have been around since 370-500 CE, with some attributing the construction of the temple to have begun with Ranaditya. The temple was completely destroyed on the orders of Muslim ruler Sikandar Butshikan in the early 15th century, with demolition lasting a year. The TempleThe Martand temple was built on top of a plateau from where one can view whole of the Kashmir Valley. • A very unique experience. The place leaves a lot to imagination about how it was made and what was its importance back in those days. A real treat for a historian as well as an architecture lover.
  • It is remains of the Sun temple built in 7th century, very less known to public. Archeological Department is now working on this, Even today it stands tall and beautiful. I saw it yesterday and love it. It's not on the main road. One has to make specific plan to go there. No sign boards are available, ONLY GOOGLE MAPS WILL HELP YOU.
  • Good place to go.
