Monument Tourist Spot
Commemorating Indian victims of the recent conflict with Pakistan, Drass War Memorial tells a story of an epic mountain battle. Located within the army base at the foothill of Tololing Hill, the memorial includes 527 graves of those who perished. The museum inside the memorial meticulously details the 1999 Kargil War, displaying a model of the battle and a rich gallery of personal weapons. The large courtyard features Mig-21s and a Pack Howitzer, as well as a memorial wall with names of the fallen. Located about 5 km (3 mi) from Dras city center, the site lies on the Srinagar-Leh highway. • No shorts or chappals allowed. So wear long trousers/ knee covering dress and shoes. Avoid taking pics of soldiers without their permission (for security reasons). Museum highlighting stories of martyrs also carries sample weapon & equipment and maps of all battle, do ask soldiers for explanation of maps. There is briefing by soldier at regular intervals that gives insight about Kargil battle, do listen to it. For your tomorrow, we gave our today - India Army Soldiers. #Respect
  • A Must Visit to pay Tribute to the Martyrs. Please ensure to keep some time separate for this place. Just a casual visit is not enough. There is an arrangement of complete guidance for the visitors to know the facts and figures of the different wars with our neighbour country. We feel safer there only because of sacrifices of the brave army men. An appeal: This is a memorial and not a Tourist spot. Please ensure to maintain the sanctity of the place.
  • We were there only for couple of hours or so. I am still short for words to describe about the place. But its a highly recommended place to visit if anybody is passing by thw road. So many people have lost their lives foe their country. It reminded me of my own country's freedom fighting.
  • Love for our nation grows 1000 times once you visit this place. Also our blood boils and anger oozes on the Pakistani and Kashmiri Islamic terrorists. Our Jawans keep their life in their hands and safeguard us and our mother land. We Must fight these terror minds and liberate POK. We must ask our government to give free hands to our Jawans to kill the Islamic terrorists even if they throw stones at our soldiers. Jai Hind
