Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Kanyakumari

4.5
Visit Vivekananda Rock Memorial, sitting iconically upon one of two rocks sticking out from the middle of the sea. Swami Vivekananda is said to have attained enlightenment on these rocks, with a towering statue overlooking the endless ocean built in his honor. Two meditation halls offer a surreal experience for the spiritual, with the isolated rocks offering the perfect atmosphere to clear one’s mind. The ground itself can get quite hot, which can be uncomfortable as you must take your shoes off. • This is a good spot to visit in Kanyakumari. Though the queue for the ferry to the memorial is extremely long and time consuming. It’s a good place to see once.  more »
  • Amazing and surreal, this place is spiritual as well as beautiful! The way to get here is by a boat, which is mostly overcrowded and hurls into the sea splashing over the waves. The queues are long bu...  more »
  • The island now features its own rabbit colony. The children will love it and will help them recover from the spooky Om noise coming from underneath the memorial.  more »

  • It should be declared as a wonder of the world. The place is magnificent and no words can describe the beauty of it. The view of the India Ocean is majestic. The place is a memorial made in the name of Swami Vivekananda, who was a spiritual leader whose principles are followed everywhere. There is a meditation hall where you can feel the burst of positive energy. Make it a point to visit at least once in a lifetime.
  • The end point of India. A really nice place filled by water from every corner. U need to get to a boat to reach there and the service will be available upto 4 pm. There will be huge queue, so plan accordingly. And about the place just see the photos and feel the awesomeness. And the sun set also pretty nice. There is a sun set point specially.so you can go there and enjoy the moment. But that place will be crowded.
  • Magnificent and majestic spot. A ferry Service is available which will take visitors to the spot. To avail the ferry service, tickets have to be bought. Normal tickets cost ₹34 and special tickets cost ₹169. The only difference between between normal and special tickets is that the queue for special tickets is much much less than normal one. Both of them will see the same thing and board the same boat but one has to stand in the normal ticket queue for a long time. The boat will drop the visitors in the spot and while returning one can board any of the boats available. One has to buy entry tickets in the spot to enter the rock memorial which costs ₹ 20 per head and also keep his/her shoes in a shoe-keeping counter. One can stay there as long as they wish.Under certain circumstances the ferry service ceases such as due to high tides or strong winds. But don't believe them. The guards and ferry service people told us that the service was unavailable then due to strong winds and will start operating the next day. The publicly addressed this message and many people retreated. But we again tried 20 minutes later and unexpectedly they started to operate without any prior notice. Pls don't forget to hit helpful if it really helps u.
  • The cost of the ferry is affordable. The line is long, but in the shade with seats. The time passed quickly because of the diversity and friendliness of everyone. When it is time to board the ferry, they direct you to the life jackets which everyone seems frantic to ensure they get one, but they are counting and won't let you on the boat without a life jacket. The boat ride is short, but quite crowded. Once on the island, you will have to pay to get to the temple, but it was less than 100 rupees. The ocean waves on the rocks is hypnotic, the breeze is refreshing and the view is memorable.
  • I loved this place. it's awesome. You are blown with the wind in the middle of the sea... Outstanding view of the sea and Thiruvalluvar's statue. Even if you don't have any interest in Vivekananda and his doings u can just visit the place for its location and sprawling space. One with interest in Vivekananda can find lots of history about him and then there is a meditation hall also.the quiet place calms you down from the bustle of the daily life and gives you peace of mind with the airy place adding to the effect.
