  • It was a 4 hour drive from Mumbai through the beautiful malshej ghat. And the ascent was very tiring after the long drive. But the view from the top was worth it all. And inside the main fort building when you get to see Shivaji's golden bust shining in all its glory, it fills you with a sense of pride that you won't feel anywhere else.
  • Wow amazing fort. Come early around 7am on a weekday. Fort opens at 6am. Wear shoes and mosquito repellent. Try the nimu sherbet while coming down. Will take 3 hours total. 1 hour to climb. The view from the top is amazing. Take a panoramic photograph from the top.
  • Chhatrapati Shivaji was born at the fort on 19 February 1630 (some accounts place it 1627), and spent his childhood there. Inside the fort is a small temple dedicated to the goddess Shivai Devi, after whom Shivaji was named.
  • Shivaji's birth place. Though most part of the fort got destroyed over time, the building where Shivaji was born is still there. Fort is well maintained.
