(4.7/5 based on 5,000+ reviews on the web)
Perched atop a rocky promontory and overlooking the surrounding plains, Mehrangarh Fort and its towering walls rank among the most iconic landmarks in the country. Built in the 1450s by the rulers of the Marwar Kingdom, the fortress bears cannonball scars from the battles it saw in the following centuries. On your way up to the castle, you can marvel at the fortifications that rise 125 m (410 ft) above the city, sticking straight up from the hill's rock face. Explore the museum within to learn more about the fort's history and see an extensive collection of rare arms, armor, artwork, and other artifacts from the region. From the top of the battlements, lined with antique cannons, you'll get a sweeping view over the city and the landscape below. • Its great to roam around, click some great pictures! Its has a picturesque view and just the right pop of colours!! Dinner is a good idea there :)
  • Ascend to the Fort Mehrengarh, now houses an interesting Museum, is an unforgettable sight: perched on a rocky slope is imposing and majestic with its walls, cylindrical towers and fortified gates. The last of these, the Laha Pol, iron door, shows the footprints of rani sacrificatesi city on the pyre of their spouses in the ceremony of sati. The walls of the Fort there is a splendid view over the city of Jodhpur, the "blue city" jags around irregular slopes of its fortress. Blue, the color of the gods, once distinguished the houses of Brahmins, the priestly caste hegemony in Indian society, because many centuries ago, according to tradition, some of them painted their houses of this color after discovering that kept the mosquitoes and then the custom spread.

  • This fort is awesome from far as well as when you approach it. The majestic walls, gateways and jaali windows inspire awe in you as walk through this fort. It is well maintained, clean and with signboards everywhere it is easy to go from one place to another. We took the audio guide option and managed to cover all of it in about a couple of hours. It was a hot day and we felt quite relieved to be inside the museum areas of the palace. The museum has a good collection of palkis, weaponry, paintings, etc. All very interesting from a historical perspective. A must visit if you are visiting Jodhpur!
