#4 of 12 in Parks in Jodhpur
Kaylana Lake is located 8 km west of Jodhpur in Rajasthan, India. It is an artificial lake, built by Pratap Singh in 1872. The lake spreads over an area of 84 km2. In ancient times this region had palaces and gardens made by two rulers of Jodhpur - Bhim Singh and Takhat Singh. These were destroyed to make Kaylana Lake. The lake is situated between igneous rock land formations. It receives its water from Hati Nehar (translation: elephant canal), which is further connected to the Indra Gandhi canal. The natural vegetation here mostly consists of Babool trees (Acacia nilotica), and various migratory birds such as Siberian cranes are seen here in the winter season. The city of Jodhpur and all the surrounding towns and villages depend on Kaylana lake as a source of drinking water.

  • A good place for boat riding. One of the attraction of jodhpur. Boat ride can be done at cost of RS. 100 for motor boat per person, or you can hire padal boat for 2 for RS. 150.
  • A very good place for boating as well as picnic .... people can enjoy with there families specially at the rainy season ... the baked corn sold by vendors is awsome in taste
  • Can be avlided in hot weather. Best time to visit is either early mornings or late afternoon. A vast rocky land scape.
  • Scenic and looks very natural. Nice boat ride
  • Source of all water supplies to the city, but as a tourist spot, its a lake, that's it. Nothing special attractions or amenities are built here. A decent picnic spot with family.

Where to stay in Jodhpur

Blue-tinted Jodhpur contains a vast array of accommodations to suit the varied tastes and budgets of its many visitors. Truly luxurious options sit in secluded spots overlooking the city proper, offering extensive facilities, such as pools, spas, and fine-dining restaurants. The city's spacious southerly district houses many standard-to-upmarket hotels, with the surrounding streets spread out and relatively calm. In the north of the city things get livelier, with dozens of little guesthouses and hostels lining the narrow streets, residential roads, and teeming bazaars.
