  • We visited Gagron from Jhalawar where we were staying in Prithi Villas Palace. The maharaja lent us his security guard as a guide, but in reality the purpose of much of the extensive ruins is hard to ...  more »
  • Despite its ranking on the UNESCO World Heritage list, the fort is badly maintained despite previous efforts (paved promenade). However the view from the fort is awesome.

  • This is a fabulous fort, well worth a visit. It towers above the river and there are spectacular views. The cannon platform was awesome. It's a great place to walk and there is plenty to see. There is...  more »

  • With river flowing in the backside, the fort is beautifully located among the greens. It can be well approached by google map and is secured by the police force posted at every entry and exit gate. Famous Sati temple is also located inside the fort
  • A criminally neglected fort, which looks imposing from the outside, but is sadly dilapidated inside. It is a World Heritage Site, but not well-maintained or well publicized. The day I visited, I was the only tourist in the fort, which is huge, and can easily take a day to roam around completely. Sadly, there are no guides (human or audio), which means you just have to imagine, how life would have been in the heyday of the Fort. Since, there are no or very few visitors, roaming around the Fort is a joy, even though most of it is in ruins. Hope they restore it to its former glory.
  • Beautiful fort with less tourist attraction. Worth visiting. If you are a photography enthusiast it is a must see place and don't forget to get to the opposite side either at evening or in morning to get a breathtaking picture. November to mid of March will be ideal time to visit.
  • It's a hidden jewl for those who have a knack for historical forts in India. Located in Jhalawar district of Rajasthan. It costs about Rs 250 in an auto to get there from city centre. When I visited construction work was being done but there were almost no tourists. It's been given UNESCO world Heritage status in 2013. I spent about 3 hrs inside as there was a lot to see. Practice of Jauhar (women burned themselves and committed suicide rather than being captured by enemy forces) was carried out twice.
  • This fort is not much talked about in most travel books or websites. It became a UNESCO World heritage in 2013. It is said to be built over several centuries (8th - 18th Century AD) and stands witness to many great battles. it's surrounded by waters of river Ahu & river Kalisindh. It's a fort that is both forest protected and water protected. The terrible practice of "Jauhar", wherein women immolated themselves rather than face capture, was carried out twice. To reach here one may come to Jhalawar city and stay in any hotel (costs anywhere from Rs. 200/night to 2500/night). Fort is about 5-7 Km from the main city bus stand. Any auto rickshaw will happily take you there and bring you back for Rs. 300/- There is also a mosque which you can visit.
