Kuldhara Abandoned Village, Jaisalmer

3.2
Discover the stories and consider the mysteries of a ghost town at Kuldhara Abandoned Village. Once a prosperous town, it has been said that its inhabitants, and those who lived in 83 nearby villages, all left one night in 1825, laying a curse on the town that it would never again be populated. The reason for their desertion remains the subject of much debate; the most common story holds that an unjust prime minister levied heavy taxes on the citizens when they said he could not marry a girl who lived in the village. Cursed or not, no one has moved back to this town in the desert, leaving its buildings as evocative ruins with an architectural elegance and mysterious atmosphere. • RTDC is trying to make this location more attractable. Nearby jaisalmer and one should visit to see how an old village looked like. Geologist may find good preserved fossil in bricks of abandoned home...  more »
  • This old village can be an interesting stage on the 20km journey that separate you from Jaisalmer rendezvous for a camel safari in the desert. What makes his interest, it is of course the history that surrounds it. Some 200 years ago, everyone disappeared overnight, and no one has found the trace. One of the biggest mysteries of the region leaving place to all kinds of superstitions... or not... The places would be haunted to believe a number of people who would have attended some agonizing manifestations. Besides, it is forbidden to attend the scene past 6 pm... Whatever it is, the Government strives to preserve the remains of this old village. Room for imagination throughout your walk among the ruins. The site is large enough. Don't hesitate to walk a little bit everywhere. The cross remains help reconstruct what was to be the pediments, door, ceilings, arches and beams, and with a little observation, we discover many very small objects, mostly pottery. Don't you dare to pick to try to keep it, it would be extremely frowned upon, and let live history and do not remove the witnesses.

  • A decent good enough stop by... If one has the time to visit it This place is good for photography purposes.. and has a deep and intriguing history. Other than that it's just some crumbling walls about half an hour in from the main highway. Though tour trips generally do take people here.. and it's sort of a tourist spot as of now. I do not feel it's worth the extra time to actually drive to kuldhara and see it. And now they also charge money to visit it... Which is odd as there are no services inside Like toilets or anything. Overall I would recommend to skip this place if u are on a tight time frame
  • The story behind this village is that a group of pandit to revolt against a rude Kings cursed him and abandoned thus village completely overnight. But government build a couple of buildings here to give a feel of village life but it does not capture the true essence of this place
  • Whenever you visit Jaisalmer mark this point. M sure u would like it. Village was totally abandoned but the local tourism's renovated some of the badly affected house's!!
  • This is not a haunted place at all you will find chips wrappers and beer bottles around the village. The story about this village is that there was a Rajput king who loves priest daughter and tell priest on his daughters 18th birthday he is going to kidnap his daughter so on the midnight of the 18th birthday the village people unite and leave the village in one night.
  • There is nothing haunted about this place. Some say it a cursed village, but there is no proof. However, it is still good to see a 800 year old village and good to know that they knew how to build multifloor solid houses without cement. Few parts of the village is re-constructed to give the tourists a glance of what it would have been 800 years back. Most of the things are in ruin.
