Gadsisar Sagar Lake, Jaisalmer

(2.8/5 based on 1,200+ reviews on the web)
At Gadsisar Sagar Lake, see the wildlife reserve popular among bird-watchers, as well as the cultural landmarks which surround its shores. Artificially made in 1400 CE, the lake served as a conservation tank which supplied the arid city with water. Today it serves as an oasis that harbors many species of migratory birds, so bring a good pair of binoculars to have a closer look. As you explore the lake's coastline, visit the nearby temples and shrines that became a pilgrimage spot for many Hindu devotees. Make sure to bring an umbrella, or a raincoat to stay dry during the monsoon season. Make Gadsisar Sagar Lake part of your personalized Jaisalmer itinerary using our Jaisalmer tour planner.

  • Early in the morning we arrived to visit this artificial lake which was used to supply water to the city of Jaisalmer. That was like an enchanted place ... If there wasn't so much dirt that emerges from the fetid water. Anyway the show is enjoyable, with small temples that emerge from the water, the steps leading down into the water and the quiet atmosphere that you breathe. The Lake is populated by huge catfish, that grow undisturbed saw the sacredness of the place; to them provides the local population that in the morning, throw them food.

  • we took a nice evening walk around, watched sunset and the boats sailing on the lake, got to the peninsula in the middle of the lake and watched evening prayers in the temple there.
  • We visited the lake in early morning hours. Still could find tourists around. The guide gave us nice info about the lake. Its a plesant place to be. I am in love wit the Shiva Temple there.
