Gadsisar Sagar Lake, Jaisalmer

3.6
#6 of 49 in Nature in Rajasthan
At Gadsisar Sagar Lake, see the wildlife reserve popular among bird-watchers, as well as the cultural landmarks which surround its shores. Artificially made in 1400 CE, the lake served as a conservation tank which supplied the arid city with water. Today it serves as an oasis that harbors many species of migratory birds, so bring a good pair of binoculars to have a closer look. As you explore the lake's coastline, visit the nearby temples and shrines that became a pilgrimage spot for many Hindu devotees. Make sure to bring an umbrella, or a raincoat to stay dry during the monsoon season. Put Gadsisar Sagar Lake at the forefront of your travel plans using our Jaisalmer trip builder site .

  • Simply beautiful. You will definitely click pics for your DPs from this locale. The lake is of fishes(I reckon catfish). Don't get excited, fishing is prohibited in this lake. Just enjoy the view and it easily accessible from anywhere in the city
  • Gadsisar Lake – Excavated in 1367 by Rawal Gadsi Singh, it is a scenic rainwater lake surrounded by the small temples and shrines of Amar Sagar. Earlier, this lake was used to be the main water source of Jaisalmer. Due to an increased water demand for agriculture, the lake is increasingly threatened to dry out.
  • Its a beautiful Lake ,you can see lots of fish in it,apart from this there are so many birds around the lake.Just sit besides the lake and enjoy the peaceful proceedings of nature.
  • GADISAR LAKE Gadisar Lake was constructed in the 14th century by Maharawal Gadsi Singh to meet the water needs of his arid lands. Considering its importance, many small temples and shrines were constructed around it, transforming it into a pilgrimage centre and a tourist attraction.
  • A famous tourist attraction in Jaisalmer, Gadsisar Lake is an artificial water reservoir that was the only source of water for this acrid city in old days. Built by Maharaja Gadsi Singh around 1400 A.D, it was originally conceived as a water conservation tank. You witness a lot of shrines and temples flourishing around this lake. As you enter the area, a fascinating gateway built by a royal courtesan named Tillon welcomes you. The lake still retains a lot of rain water and during winters, various migratory birds get attracted towards this place. It is recommended that you carry a pair of binoculars to see exotic bird species here. For photography lovers, there are many photo opportunities at this location.
