Bada Bagh, Jaisalmer

3.6
#5 of 25 in Sightseeing in Jaisalmer
Landmark Tourist Spot
Soak up the contrasting atmospheres conjured by the regality and starkness of Bada Bagh, a former garden and set of royal cenotaphs. Once lush and green as a result of a dam, today the sandstone structures rise from reddish sand, rather than verdant grass and other plant life. Started in 1743, the site hasn't been added to since Indian independence. The interesting historical garden gives the impression that the desert is trying to reclaim its sandstone, or the whole site is seemingly growing out from the ground. • Beautiful royal centoph though not well maintained. Charging too much for entry. But must visit if there in jaisalmer. Nice views on the top.
  • The Bada Bagh are the historical burial grounds of the royal family of Jaisalmer. These are a collection of big and small domed platforms that have long been used as a location for bollywood movie songs. Though they are a spectacle to behold when in jaisalmer, the upkeep is in shambles. Most of the structures are in ruins without any efforts made whatsoever to restore them. The elderly will find it difficult to navigate around as there are no cemented paths. This stop is just worthy of a photo-stop and can easily be given a miss.
  • if you are interesting in photography , then it is must visit place. you can spend number of hours here.
  • Beautiful cenotaph of royal family. Many Bollywood movies shot at this place. This need some time as each have a story and accordingly it's build.
  • Cenotaphs of the royal families. ALSO has a "SATI STAHL". Better viewed at sunset. Open till around sunset / 7 PM.
