Jal Mahal, Jaipur

3.5
#10 of 373 in Things to do in Jaipur
Admire Jaipur’s majestic “floating palace,” Jal Mahal, situated in the middle of Man Sagar Lake. The red sandstone palace supposedly dates back to the 18th century, but has been renovated and restored numerous times. On a lakeside stroll, you’ll find that the palace appears to be floating on the water's surface, but in reality only the top floor of the imposing building is visible, while the rest are submerged underwater. While entry into the palace is prohibited, you can take a boat ride on the lake to inspect it closely, or enjoy the view from the land. It couldn't be easier to arrange your visit to Jal Mahal and many more Jaipur attractions: make an itinerary online using Inspirock's Jaipur trip planner .

  • It is a place just to watch from road. This palace have multiple storeys, 3 of which is submerged in water, access to which is not allowed. There are street food vendors around to enjoy a bit. If you want to have walk around the lake, go in evening when climate is cold.
  • The scenery around here is mesmerizing and a good weather adds to it. Street food adds to the taste. Take walks around here you surely will enjoy it.
  • You can enjoy an early sunrise, the street food, the view of the lake, etc. You can feed the fishes flour rolls or pieces of bread. Parking is available and there's a gas station opposite if required. There's only the issue of seating. Cheers :D

Where to stay in Jaipur

With a big selection of budget and mid-range hotels, Jaipur serves as an ideal base for exploring the surrounding area. Many taxi and rickshaw drivers aggressively push their choice of hotels on unwitting tourists--if you refuse their suggestions, they might double the fare. To avoid this inconvenience, book your room ahead and call the hotel to arrange for a pickup--many offer shuttle services to and from the train and bus station.
