Jal Mahal, Jaipur

3.5
#10 of 550 in Things to do in Jaipur
Admire Jaipur’s majestic “floating palace,” Jal Mahal, situated in the middle of Man Sagar Lake. The red sandstone palace supposedly dates back to the 18th century, but has been renovated and restored numerous times. On a lakeside stroll, you’ll find that the palace appears to be floating on the water's surface, but in reality only the top floor of the imposing building is visible, while the rest are submerged underwater. While entry into the palace is prohibited, you can take a boat ride on the lake to inspect it closely, or enjoy the view from the land. It couldn't be easier to arrange your visit to Jal Mahal and many more Jaipur attractions: make an itinerary online using Inspirock's Jaipur trip planner .

  • A beautiful palace located in middle of man sagar lake,Jaipur. Its lit-up at night time and its very beautiful. Good place for photography. Entry inside the place is not allowed. There is market on the side of the lake. Camel rides are done. Overall a very beautiful place. Plan this place with Amer fort since its on the same route, stop here for 30min or so not much to do.
  • Brilliantly illuminated all night. Appears even clearer during the day. A bay has been constructed where tourists can spend time.. Plenty of space to sit or walk around.
  • Monument is good but not accessible as it is located in between of Lake and there is no arrangement to reach the structure. You can watch it from the road only. You are not permitted to visit the structure. But it gives you a greater view for photography. Recommend for a quick visit. Park your vehicle on roadside for quick visit. If you want to stay longer park your vehicle in parking located other side of road.
  • It's a palace in the middle of a lake. Looks pretty and a good background for a photo. You have to see it from the shores of the lake and can't get close to it. There are many street hawkers here for some traditional Rajasthani shopping but really not much to do/see here. But worth a quick 10 min pit stop.
  • The Jal Mahal is 4km to the north of Jaipur and is located on the main Amer-Jaipur road. Most visitors to the Jal Mahal combine the visit with the Amer fort as both attractions are on the same side of Jaipur. A typical visit to the Jal Mahal will be less than 30 minutes, enough time to take some photos. There used to be gondolas which would provide romantic boat rides across the lake but these rides stopped 3 years ago. Apart from the small market stalls and camel rides there is not much else to do at the Jal Mahal. Unfortunately there is stinking water around the Jal Mahal due to poor maintenance .
