Jal Mahal, Jaipur

Admire Jaipur’s majestic “floating palace,” Jal Mahal, situated in the middle of Man Sagar Lake. The red sandstone palace supposedly dates back to the 18th century, but has been renovated and restored numerous times. On a lakeside stroll, you’ll find that the palace appears to be floating on the water's surface, but in reality only the top floor of the imposing building is visible, while the rest are submerged underwater. While entry into the palace is prohibited, you can take a boat ride on the lake to inspect it closely, or enjoy the view from the land. • It's on the way from Jaipur city to Amer Fort. The lake is very dirty and you cannot just see the jal Mahal from the shore.  more »
  • The Jal Mahal is a little way out of town, on the way to the Amber Fort. It is stunning to look at but it is disappointing that you can’t visit it, only look at it standing in the water - which is stu...  more »
  • Jal Mahal (Lake Palace) is a very picturesque landmark in Jaipur. It is one of the famous spot for locals and families too. It is one of the must do photo stops for tourists. In Royal days, it was use...  more »
  • Monument is good but not accessible as it is located in between of Lake and there is no arrangement to reach the structure. You can watch it from the road only. You are not permitted to visit the structure. But it gives you a greater view for photography. Recommend for a quick visit. Park your vehicle on roadside for quick visit. If you want to stay longer park your vehicle in parking located other side of road.
  • Now I know I mentioned my top picks but this is just for awareness and it isn’t on my top places to visit. It’s a palace in the middle of Man Sagar lake and is not open/accessible to general public. It’s a nice view from a bridge and that’s pretty much about it. Having seen pics of the Jal Mahal , I was of the impression that it would look at its glittery best in the night with all the lighting and so in-spite of locals warning us that there is nothing to see , that images on the net and magazines made me head here and it was a decision I still regret to this day because below is what we got to see !!!!! My suggestion would be to avoid but you will come across this when you travel to Amber Fort from the city as one will have to cross this bridge. You could stop for a min for a pic or two but of course during day time.
  • A very beautiful palace in the middle of a lake. One of a kind structure in Jaipur. Very scenic with mountains in the backdrop & birds all around. Definitely worth a visit if you are visiting Jaipur. Bonus tip : If you are coming to Jaipur by car, Jal Mahal will be on your way, simply take a right turn from Delhi Road towards Amer.
  • A very good sunrise to watch here. Had witnessed a very beautiful sunrise early in January. But the place looks terrible in terms of cleanliness. The water is contaminated. The roads, the platforms and the byways are very ugly. When this place is considered a place of attraction, I wonder what the government is doing in regards to it. It would be good, very good to see this place clean.
  • Nice place to visit in jaipur. Situated in middle of a lake it gives a unique look to the Mahal. Government should work more towards maintaining such monuments. The lake is dirty and the local vendors are adding to it. Save this place as it brings many tourists in. The camel ride was plus point. The parking also need to be improved.

Where to stay in Jaipur

With a big selection of budget and mid-range hotels, Jaipur serves as an ideal base for exploring the surrounding area. Many taxi and rickshaw drivers aggressively push their choice of hotels on unwitting tourists--if you refuse their suggestions, they might double the fare. To avoid this inconvenience, book your room ahead and call the hotel to arrange for a pickup--many offer shuttle services to and from the train and bus station.
