Golkonda Fort, Hyderabad

4.3
Nestled on top of a granite hill, Golkonda Fort, the place that once held the famous Koh-i-noor diamond, overlooks the city of Hyderabad. The historic structure served as the capital of the Qutb Shahi dynasty in the 16th and 17th centuries, before being abandoned. Explore the massive stone ruins, enjoy the panoramic view of the city, or try out the fort’s famed acoustics; a clap from anywhere on the premises can be heard on the highest point of the fortress. • A beautiful place with great historical importance. Don’t go in the day time as the sun will tire you! Plan it on a cool evening as it takes 2 hours to enjoy the place. But if you want to avoid the crowd, plan it on a cool morning at 9am. The government is doing good work to avoid littering by collecting security deposit for each bottle you carry inside, which will be refunded on successful returning of the empty bottles back to the counter near the entrance.
  • Our guide was enthusiastic enough to give us all the deets about the history of this fort. We were completely amazed by the engineering of that time. They knew the concept of amplification. Speak in one corner and u can her from another. A well built bathroom, different pipelines for hot water. And so many interesting facts... And yes u can view the whole city from the top of this fort
  • Approach road to this place is very narrow, it require careful driving. There is sufficient parking space just 100 meters from the fort. This for is maintained by ASI so it is clean and well maintained. Inside campus is huge and it is very hot during summers. The place itself is beautiful and you can feel its historical value.
  • Quite a place for anyone with an interest in Hyderabad's history. Access is easy. Some useful facts: Guides are entertaining, not necessarily accurate in there narrative. Every guide has his own take! Light and sound show is OK but mosquitoes WILL ruin it for you. Get plenty of repellents to enjoy the show. Photo sessions near the sunset hour are good. Just shoot away to glory on social media The top is tiring to reach. Arm yourself with fluids. I would suggest fill lime juice in bottles before trekking the stairs. You can even buy some at the entrance.
  • One of a best place to visit and have some good time with family. Bit tight to get parking place. good ticketing counter. There we won't find more queue. Antique collection of fort is very impressive. And maintenance is also good. All like is the entrance and the lawn between the walls. Can see how protected they were and how they planned for security. And in the evening we have light show good one time watch. Inside we don't get any shops in between the way to top, have to buy anything in the entrance. Best thing ever is the evening we spent and whole Hyderabad view from top.
