Golkonda Fort, Hyderabad

#2 of 151 in Things to do in Hyderabad
Castle Historic Site
Nestled on top of a granite hill, Golkonda Fort, the place that once held the famous Koh-i-noor diamond, overlooks the city of Hyderabad. The historic structure served as the capital of the Qutb Shahi dynasty in the 16th and 17th centuries, before being abandoned. Explore the massive stone ruins, enjoy the panoramic view of the city, or try out the fort’s famed acoustics; a clap from anywhere on the premises can be heard on the highest point of the fortress. A visit to Golkonda Fort represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Hyderabad tour planner to plot your vacation.

  • Awesome historical place. Need to climb hundreds of steps but it's worth spending energy. Availing a guide for 300 -500 rupees would make u understand the history of Golconda fort. Spend 2-3 hours and watch the place. Definitely it remains in our memories for long. Evening, u can attend light & sound show which will explain the history of Golconda in a fantastic way.
  • A must visit at Hyderabad...Hire a guide ..That way you are made aware of the all the minute details..Pay the guide somewhere around 600-700. Expected tour time would be around 2-3 hours. Simple refreshments available at the top of the fort. Wear comfortable footing so that is is easier to climb.
  • Nice historical place. Fort is still intact. Usually half day will be required to see it. I visited during summer. It was too hot hence couldn't see fort completely. Advise not to visit during summer.
  • Golconda fort is one of the most popular monuments.... it is an outstanding example of marvelous engineer and magical architecture... there are lots of attractive features inside... But please hire a guide...without a guide and historical background knowledge this place is just an old ruins.... very well maintained...very cheap entry tickets.... some of the part of this fort is reserved for film shootings....thats why general public are not allowed in those areas.... there is also light and sound show in the evening....
  • Couldn't imagine it would be so clean! Continuous efforts by the staff in this regard are commendable! I like historical places and a stroll down the path of the fort takes you back to its majestic era. Be prepared for a great climb if you want to explore its real beauty. You need to be physically fit to traverse this monumental fort. The light and sound show was a nice effort, though I can't say the same for the company of fellow viewers who were so inclined to denounce it.
