Har ki Pauri, Haridwar
(4.4/5 based on 850+ reviews on the web)
Observe Hindus perform their spiritual rituals at Har ki Pauri, on the banks of holy Ganges. See how thousands of devotees reach the end of their pilgrimage and bathe themselves in the purifying waters, a symbolic act meant to cleanse the soul. On this famous ghat (series of steps leading to the water), you can also find a large footprint on a stone wall believed to belong to the Lord Vishnu. Besides the mass bathing, many festivities (Kumbha Mela, Ardh Kumbh Mela, Vaisakhi) take place here on a regular basis.. Plan to visit Har ki Pauri and other customer-reviewed, writer-recommended Haridwar attractions using our Haridwar tourist route planner.

  • During my visit on 2012, my friends actually dragged me to have a bath here. It was a holy experience to see and feel the Ganges in its different pace. Basically I have seen Ganges in Kolkata based areas. The Blue Holi river and its extreme current made a difference. The priests, the nearby people, the other people who came there to take a bath were actually point of attraction. Impressed to see how they are giving their efforts to keep the river clean as every seconds people offer leaves and flowers in the water. Some even immerse the ashes of human body to pray the eternal peace for the dead. It was a nice experience. PS: Don't miss the evening prayer. It is a spectacular thing.
  • Haridwar is the most religious Hindu pilgrimage holy city in India. We, the tour loving Hindu citizens want Haridwar to be the most pristine pure holy city over other places. But alas, it did not fulfill our expectations. The holy Ganga river, carrying clear cool water from Rishikesh and high mountains, gets spoiled here due to lack of our hygienic conscience. The people including pilgrims need to keep this city and Mother Ganga clean. The local government must apply stringent regulations to prevent pouring of city garbage, plastics and elements of rituals into holy water. For even leaves, flowers and candles the management of Ganga scheme must explore some restricted stream of Ganga to use for this holy rituals which can be filtered in regular manner. The sewage system and public latrines must be adequately placed to cover the huge pilgrimage which is quite inadequate. Hope to find Haridwar, a pristine clean city.
