#20 of 44 in Things to do in Hampi
Carved out of a giant boulder, Kadalekai Ganesha ranks as the largest statue of Lord Ganesha within the World Heritage-listed Hampi complex. The 4.5 m (15 ft) statue sits inside a large inner sanctum within an open hall supported by slender pillars and decorated in images from various mythological stories. On the northeastern slope of Hemakuta Hill, the hall serves as one of Hampi's top observation points, providing some of the finest views of the surrounding area and other notable monuments of this archaeological site. The mammoth statue of lord Ganesha has a stomach of the shape of a peanut hence the name. Sadly, the stomach is now destroyed.

Where to stay in Hampi

You'll find a number of simple guesthouses and homestays located in Hampi itself, primarily in the Hampi Bazaar district. North and south of the river, they offer comfortable rooms in modest former residential buildings. Further afield, a selection of more upmarket resorts and hotels sit on the banks of the river and the nearby lake to the northwest. Many visitors choose to stay in Hosapete, to the southwest, or the small town of Kamalapur, located just south of Hampi. Both offer a greater range of accommodations than Hampi, including hotels, resorts, and hostels.
