Admire the austere and grandiose World Heritage Site of Group of Monuments at Hampi--the remnants of a vast city of riches, the last capital of the Hindu kingdom. In the 16th century the Deccan Muslim confederacy conquered Hampi, only to abandon it later. Today, tour the city to witness the ornate temples, a royal complex, a bazaar, civic buildings, the Islamic quarter, and other infrastructural ruins that have enthralled travelers for centuries. Bring plenty of water on your excursion. Visit the website for a map of the attraction. A very nice historic place. Be sure to hire a guide to get the full experience of the place. They will explain about the musical pillars and the history behind the carvings. Take an umbrella along. It gets quite hot. Restrooms are hard to find.

Hampi - Former Great Vijaya Nagar Empire. One of the best places to learn something out of our vast Indian history based on the great VijayaNagara Empire. The great Krishnadevarya & the famous Tenali Raman were based here. Hampi, now the ruins of the empire has vast places of visit from the dynasty. Places like Virupaksa Temple,Sasivekalu Ganesha,Kadalekalu Ganesha, Ugra Narasimha Statue, The Queens Palace, The Queens Bath, The Elephant Stable, The Underground Shiva Temple, The Kings Balance & The Magnificent Vitthala Temple & the stone chariot is a must visit.
