Jai Vilas Palace, Gwalior
(3.9/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web)
Appreciate the luxurious life of Indian royalty at Jai Vilas Palace. Built in 1874, architect Sir Michael Filose combined different European styles--Tuscan, Italian-Doric, and Corinthian--to achieve the palace's grandiose aesthetic. See the exquisite Durbar hall, decorated with gilt and gold furniture and featuring monumental crystal chandeliers, which hang from the ornate golden ceilings. Well-maintained rooms, including the king and queen's rooms, display the royal family's lifestyle, making it quite easy to imagine how a Maharajah must have lived. Keep an eye out for the palace's railway track, with a train carrying decanters and cigars for the guests. A visit to Jai Vilas Palace represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Gwalior trip generator to plot your vacation.

  • Jai Vilas Palace, the home of the Maharaja (King) of Gwalior - The Scindias. It has been often referred as the Buckingham Palace of India. The majestic white piece of architecture has been attracting visitors from Near and Far. 125 kms from the Taj Mahal, it is very much present on the tourist map of India. What to watch out - 1. The Chandelier which is said to be the biggest in Asia. So much so that more than 20 elephants were carried to the terrace just to test the strength of the ceiling.  2. The royal dining train with the silver train. 3. The Architecture 4. The Arms and Ammunition displayed. 5. The Carts and Wagons at the exit. You may also chose to dine at the Taj Usha KiranPalace, a property of Taj, a part of the heritageJai Vilas Palace. There is a zoo right next to the Palace in case of you are an animal lover. Also, the evening Light and Sound show at the Gwalior Fort should not be missed.
