Umananda Temple, Guwahati

Located on a small, remote island in the middle of the Brahmaputra River, Umananda Temple offers a spell of tranquility. The 17th-century dome-shaped temple, built by King Gadadhar Singa, features intricately carved figurines conveying that worshippers followed all principle Hindu gods at this temple. The holy site sits on the smallest inhabited riverine island in the world. You can only access it by boat; look for them on the banks of the river. • Right on the top of Peacock island located in the middle of river Brahmaputra, this Shiva temple offers you much more than just a place of worship. A walk around the temple offers amazing views of the city as well as the river. The ferry ride from the island at the time of sunset is mesmerizing! And you may just see a golden langur (one of the most endangered species), if you are lucky enough (which I wasn't).
  • Temple is located on the middle of Brahmaputra river. Can reach there with private boat services as well as government boat services.but better to choose government if u want to save money. Can roam around the island. Have a fun with shopping, eating and seeing evening sunset..
  • A small temple located on an Island in the middle of the mighty Brahmaputra River. We can reach the temple through Govt Ferry and i believe Private ones as well which are very exorbitant. The 5 minute cruise is definitely the highlight of the trip. Temple itself is good, my only issue is that the priest make it very clear that we are expected to make some donation to them. We did not see any monkeys around though!
  • 1. Built in 1681.. all concreted up now...2. couldn’t see any trace of history.. 3. lovely place to enjoy an evening breeze in peace 4. Govt of Assam, Inland water transport ferry from near High Court premises.. ₹20 to and fro journey.
  • This is famous temple named after Parvati as history tells us it was built by Lord Shiva for happiness of Parvati. Many no of tourists visits this temple as it is an upscale temple and also in between water. ⛵ service is provided for visiting this place till 4 pm in evening. It's a holy place and must be visited when someone is exploring north east. You will find inner peace if you sit for a while and great ambience and positive atmosphere.

Where to stay in Guwahati

Most accommodations in Guwahati lie close to the main train station in the Paltan Bazaar district. Here, you'll find some particularly refined options next to the river in the Fancy Bazaar area, offering extensive views of the water and access to some of the main sights in town. Look to the mazy side streets of the Paltan Bazaar district for some budget-friendly guesthouses and hostels. The main Guwahati-Shillong Road has a good choice of hotels, with some budget and luxury options available. The road offers a degree of convenience for those who want to get out and explore the hillier areas of the region.
