Take an elephant ride through India’s home of rhinos at Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, a national reserve famous for its dense population of Great Indian One-horned rhinoceros. This swampy marshland spanning some 38 sq km (14.7 sq mi) also makes home for leopard, buffalos, wild boar, muntjacs, civets, and over 375 bird species. You can also take a jeep safari through one of the few roads passing through the sanctuary and bring your camera along for a close up view of magnificent animals. Beside rhinos, the area is a great bird watching opportunity with Indian pied horn bill, osprey, hill myna, kalij pheasant, and over 2,000 migratory birds. • “Rhinos, Up-Close. An unforgettable experience!” Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary may not be as well known or popular as Kaziranga which falls in the same state of Assam. But my visit to this sanctuary has led me to believe that Pobitora is a must go to destination. Not only for the rhinos that are endemic to this region but also for the fantastic biodiversity. We encountered some very beautiful bird species while on our evening safari in the Gypsy. The guide & the driver were both very informative and patient for all the times we requested them to stop for shooting pictures. The morning elephant safari was equally exciting as the mahouts steered the animal up and close to the rhinoceroses. Some were lazing in the muddied waters, some grazing, one calf-mother pair.. it was all very pretty and a never before experience. A most recommended place to visit in Assam. Visited November 2015
  • The best place to sight a Indian one horned Rhinoceros. You can 100% sight a Rhino here. An excellent birding spot too.
  • Lovely place to visit. We took our hault at Arya eco resort, then went for jeep safari for an hour. Spotted few one horned rhinos and wild Buffaloes. In short had a great day.
